ABOUT
I witness how forests, little by little, was being
destroyed. Young trees together with its
flourishing juvenile vegetation gone in just a wink. You know who are the culprits? The upland farmers themselves. Can you blame them? No you can not. This is their way of feeding their empty
stomach together with their family to survive. Destroying the forest that will protect us
all forever just to survive for a week or so.
But nobody have taken no action about it and now as our world grew
hotter and hotter we ultimately realized the irreversible damage our nature has
suffered and the effects of it in our lives.
We come to a point that our very existence is being threatened , our
survival, our future generation. Now we
have to do something about it. to reverse the effects in favor to our future. Let us support each other, for we have the same aspiration ‘survival’. Let us all ponder and decide and try to
answer this simple question. “ If it is not now, when?"
OUR ADVOCACY
We all want to save and or preserve our planet, Mother Earth. But frequently we asked ourselves this question “ How can I help? I’m penniless, I’m just an ordinary citizen?’’ But for me, you don’t need to be influential, a politician or a millionaire to be a part of the solution of the global problems that our planet is experiencing right now. Just a little effort and time you can be of help of solving the crisis our planet is facing. By not using or buying things or goods that does harm to our environment like plastic bags that we are using for our groceries and telling our friends to do likewise could make an impact in the fight against environmental issues. Little things count most on these crucial fight against global warming. Remember the story of David and Goliath; how a little man with his little stone flip back the tide of war. We must win this war or else this planet will be destroyed by itself and we will all perish altogether.
The matter is so serious that you can watch it on the news, the devastation of the calamities that has not been experienced before. World leaders had shared their efforts in combating this impending catastrophe. So must we, even its so simple and ordinary it would make a sense in this most worrisome time of our very existence on this planet. Here in our community, my family and friends were supporting the small and local farmers in which farming is the primary source of livelihood. These farmers depend solely in what the forest can provide them. They even cut young trees to make it to a firewood or charcoal and sell it to a local market just to make their ends meet. A bad practice if unabated or tolerated this forest will be totally destroyed and devastated beyond preservation. So we start educating and telling them that cutting trees will do no good but harm to them and to the community. We suggested to them that instead of forest destruction, why not make handicraft products in which the forest has an abundant supply of if they just protect and preserve it. We told them that we will buy their crafts and will continue to do so if they would make their wares durable, presentable and cheap. This is just to ensure them that they can buy their basic needs during the lean months of planting season so that they will not turn back to their old ways of cutting trees. But our fund is limited and not that in abundance so we need to sell these products to our relatives and friends that are living from a distant city or country so that our fund can be replenished. When the fund is available, the cycle of buying and selling starts again and the preservation of the forest will step up to the next level making it more healthier to sustain or create better habitat for all forest dwellers and inhabitants. These small farmers will now protect and preserve the forest for they are the ones who will be directly benefiting from it. As long as we are helping them, in turn they will be more educated to what a well-preserved forest can do for them and for the community as a whole.
This is our simple way of promoting the importance of our natural resources in our lives and why we must preserve our forest. With this little endeavor of ours we hope that we could make even a little change, which someday our planet hopefully will be a better place to live in just like before. We will be glad and your help will be highly appreciated if you would take part in this project of ours, by purchasing at least one of our featured items that are purely handcrafted by our fellow Filipinos, you are not just helping us fight the destruction of our forests but likewise helping our poor peasant farmers and their families live a decent life, ensuring the sustenance for their life and the existence of our life on this planet.
